If your kids are like mine, they go crazy over anything and
everything Mickey Mouse. And so, based on my experience as a mom of twin
toddlers who are mad about Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, I want to share with
you the stages of a Mickey Mouse Addiction:
Stage 1
The kids get their hands on their first Mickey/Minnie
stuffed toys. There's no other way to describe it except for love at first
sight. They refuse to let go of them.
Stage 2
The kids sleep with Mickey/Minnie beside them. Whenever they
wake up in the middle of the night, they look for Mickey/Minnie, not
Mommy/Daddy. They fall back asleep once they get a hold of the stuffed toy.
Stage 3
Mommy and Daddy acknowledge the importance of the stuffed toys and realize it would be a disaster if Mickey/Minnie get lost so they buy backup stuffed toys. Soon, the kids discover they actually have 2 Mickeys and Minnies. They agree to go to bed right away as long as all Mickeys/Minnies sleep beside them. As if the bed wasn't already crowded enough.
Stage 4
The kids refuse to eat unless they use their Mickey and
Minnie bowls, plates and utensils.
Stage 5
The kids scream "Mickey!" or "Minnie!"
everytime they see anything resembling Mickey or Minnie - like an old photo of their late great-grandmother where she was
wearing a red and white polka dot dress.
Stage 6
Mommy and Daddy discover how to use their kids' Mickey
addiction to their advantage: give them Mickey coloring sheets and some crayons
for 20 minutes of quiet time. This means mommy and daddy don't have to rush
through their meal. Maybe they can even have dessert!
Stage 7
The kids see a 3-ft Mickey at the mall. They demand to get
out of their strollers and proceed to climb all over the statue. They try to
high five or kiss the statue like they're best friends.
Stage 8
Mommy goes to the mall and gets excited about all the Mickey
apparel for kids. Mommy decides to buy the kids one Mickey/Minnie shirt each.
They're on sale! Yay! Then, as she makes her way to the counter, she turns
back. Might as well get a couple more in the next size for when they outgrow
the medium shirts. The character shop has Minnie ears? Better get one of those!
Oh look, they have limited edition Mickey and Minnie stuffed toys! Might as
well get them too!
Stage 9
Mommy tries (and fails haha) to make Mickey Mouse-shaped
gelatin in honor of Mickey and Minnie's
birthday (It's today, November 18). Wait, Mommy's confused. Who's the superfan
now? Mommy or the kids?
Well I guess it doesn't matter. If you get my kids to eat
and sleep on time, and I have the opportunity to eat a meal in peace and even
have time for dessert, then I'm a big fan! Happy 90th birthday, Mickey and
Minnie! Here's a birthday greeting from Audrey and Antonino.
