My Makeup Routine Before and After Babies

Becoming a mom changes everything. This includes your body, relationships, sleep patterns, outlook in life and... your makeup routine. I love makeup. In fact, I love it so much that Joey knew he had to pack my makeup kit in our hospital bag when I suddenly had to be admitted to our hospital's High Risk Pregnancy Unit. I always said I wanted to look presentable in our post delivery family photos. But due to the nature of my pregnancy, I wasnt able to put on makeup before giving birth anymore. Little did I know that was the way things were going to be after the twins were born. Here's a comparison of my makeup routine before and after the twins:

Face
Before: I took time preparing my face for makeup. I would cleanse, moisturize and spray on makeup primer first. Then, after the primer dries, I put on liquid foundation, concealer and set everything with loose powder.
Now: I was able to cut preparation to 2 steps - cleanse then apply tinted moisturizer with SPF.

Eyes
Before: I used to start by applying eyeshadow. Then I would carefully put on gel eyeliner, curl my lashes and apply mascara. I also used to have regular appointments to have my unruly eyebrows threaded. At home, I would use a brow comb and set my brows with clear mascara.
Now: I just define my eyes with eyeliner. My eyebrows look like caterpillars!

Cheeks
Before: Because my face is round, I would use bronzer on the hollow of my cheeks to help define them a little. Then I would swipe blush on my cheeks, chin and bridge of my nose and blend everything properly to get a healthy glow.
Now: One sweep of blush along each cheekbone just to give my face some color.

Lips
Before: To prep my lips, I would apply petroleum jelly. Then, I would take time choosing which shade of lipstick to wear. Every lipstick had a matching lip liner. I would meticulously apply lip liner and finish off with lipstick, blotting between applications to make the color last longer.
Now: I have one neutral go-to shade which I quickly swipe on my lips after applying petroleum jelly.

The first few months of motherhood are really tough to organize. I'm sure as the twins grow older, I will be able to establish a better makeup routine. But for now, this will do because after that last swipe of lipstick, I still have 2 nappies waiting to be changed.

  1. I just got married and I guess not long enough, I may experience these as well. I love to see that in spite of the change, you don't take yourself for granted. I mean, there were some changes, yes, but there's still an effort to look good even after babies. I bet you still look good even with the tedious make up session is not the usual routine as of the moment.

  2. I think that once your twins get to age 1.5 or 2, like me you will also get a better makeup routine, or better yet, go back to the way things once were.. at least when it comes to makeup. Another thing that will be honed with your skills once the kids grow a bit older is the fact that you will be able to do all the steps with in 30 minutes, and everything is fully blended. I have faith in you! You can do it <3 hahaha
