Figuring out whether your baby’s cry is a call for milk,
nappy change or a need to be held.
Buying skin firming gel in an attempt to get your
pre-pregnancy tummy back but not getting to put it on regularly because you
already consider yourself so lucky to get 5 minutes a day to shower.
Giving up chocolates and nuts when you’re breastfeeding and
your baby has a sensitive stomach.
Eating malunggay with everything to increase your milk
supply and getting frustrated when you don’t see any results.
Being your baby’s human pillow or mattress just to get them
to sleep.
Reading Goodnight Moon 50 nights in a row to establish your
baby’s sleep routine and get them to sleep longer at night (longer = 3 straight
hours).
Spending a long time putting your children to sleep then
missing them and wanting to play with them the moment they do.
Having to endure judgement for your child rearing decisions
and finding reassurance from your spouse, mom and best friend that you are
doing the right thing.
Filling your phone with photos of your children and showing
them to anyone who would care to look or sending them to your family and
friends in your messenger groups.
Getting peed at on the face during nappy change (Note to
self: Always keep your mouth closed especially when you’re changing your baby
boy’s nappy).
Missing your newly married life before kids. You think about
the days when you can just go out without having to worry whether the kids are
being fed or put down for naps on time by their caregivers. You also wonder
what you did with all your free time all those years.
Being unsure of your mothering skills and wondering if you’re really ready to be responsible for another life (or two if you have twins!) despite all the research and planning you’ve done. But somehow you manage to survive and see your babies healthy and happy. Then you realize that yes, motherhood is hard but it’s worth it.
