Twin Tips: Things We Buy In Bulk For The Twins

twin tips bulk buy for twins

Two babies in one go - efficient, right? Having twins has taught us to do things efficiently which is what made us decide to by some things in bulk. For us, buying in bulk means not having to worry about running out of supplies, less trips to the store, and saving money. Being Ilocanos (known for being frugal), Joey and I always compute the price per piece or gram of stuff we buy and buying in bulk always makes that figure go down. This is very important since having twins means double the expenses most of the time.

However, one thing to consider about buying in bulk is storage. The twins' 2 cribs, 2 car seats, 2 strollers and 2 bouncy chairs have already taken up so much space in our room which can make it a challenge to find space to store everything. Because of this, we chose the three most important items to buy in bulk.

Diapers
In the twins' first 6 months, we already changed thousands of diapers. We followed the hospital's rule of changing diapers every 2 to 3 hours to avoid skin irritation so we really burned through a pack of 58 diapers really quickly. We never want to run out or even run low on diapers ever. One thing to keep in mind when stocking up on diapers is size. At first, we stocked up on the newborn size which was alright for us since the twins were premature and a bit small but for full-term babies, I heard they grow out of the newborn size in just a couple of weeks so it's best to plan what sizes to buy in what quantities in advance. And always remember: never bulk buy diapers you haven't tried on your twins before. Always make sure they work on your them because you don't want to get stuck with boxes of diapers which give both babies a rash or cause leaks.

Cotton balls
At home, we use cotton balls dipped in water to clean our twins' diaper areas. This is something we always stock up on because we don't want to get to the point where we only have 3 pieces of cotton balls left during a huge blowout. Yikes!

Baby wipes
For convenience, we use baby wipes to clean the twins' diaper areas when we're out. But they also have uses beyond nappy changing like wiping hands, toys, faces and even impromptu cleaning of crib railings and play mats. Just make sure the wipes are made of food-grade ingredients and don't contain harmful chemicals because babies put everything in their mouths.

One final tip when bulk buying - it's always best to bulk buy things online especially when shipping's free. Aside from saving time, gas and parking money, it  also eliminates the hassle of lugging around bulky boxes and loading and unloading them from your car. Really efficient, right?
