One way to describe Dinosaur Dance, by Sandra Boynton is
high energy. As the title suggests, the book is about dancing dinosaurs. After
reading it a few times to the twins, Antonino would bounce up and down just
seeing its cover and Audrey would start shaking sideways (unprompted) from the
moment she hears the line "The blue Stegosaurus goes shimmy shimmy
shake."
The book is a great way to introduce dinosaurs to little
ones. The illustrations are cute but at the same time close to the actual
appearance of dinosaurs. Each dinosaur is also named accurately. And as a
parent to twins, I love how the author included Velociraptor twins in the
dinosaur lineup. Its rhyme and rhythm make it fun to read aloud. And if you
have older kids, it can also be used as a dance-along book to encourage
movement as each dinosaur has its own special dance move like shimmying,
stomping and flapping.
This book is a win - the twins love it and so do Joey and I.
I only hope it survives the twins' toddler years as they have currently
mastered another dinosaur move - CHOMPING! Our book is now totally chewed up
along the edges. Maybe this is a sign for me to get a backup copy.
Want a copy of the book? We bought ours from Fully Booked.
