Every dad is the world's best dad but in honor of my husband, Joey who helps make the impossible task of caring for twins possible, I want to share with you 5 reasons why dads of twins are awesome.
They are great at easing your worries.
A twin pregnancy can carry greater risks than a singleton pregnancy. This means twice the paranoia if you're a worrier like me. Whether it's stress about pregnancy or the twins' first year (Does it even stop after this?), dads of twins are able to look at a situation more objectively than moms. I cannot even count how many times Joey filled my mind with positive thoughts and helped me focus on all the things that could go right instead of my irrational worries.
They have the patience of Job.
Bed rest seems to be really common for twin pregnancies. I was on bed rest for about 4 months and I'm telling you, it was no holiday. I had to lie in bed and only get up to use the bathroom or shower (sitting down). Since a pregnant mom-to-be on bed rest can't do anything, this means dad-to-be has to pick up the slack and run the whole household by himself while doing the occasional midnight run for food that his pregnant wife must have right this moment. This is all of course on top of having to deal with a moody wife. Double the babies means double the pregnancy hormones or even more!
They also assume the role of mom.
With a 2:2 ratio of adults to kids, there really is no such thing as taking a break or taking turns when it comes to raising twins. In order to manage two infants who need constant care, dads of twins do everything moms do. They completely master the three-hour cycle of feeding, burping, nappy changing and rocking the baby to sleep. This also means that dads of twins get up at night together with moms to look after the babies and attend to their needs quicker.
They are always cool and calm.
Two diapers to change means changing one baby's diaper while singing or entertaining the other baby who is also uneasy because of his/her dirty diaper. Pretty crazy, right? But few things faze dads of twins. Even with broken sleep, they still manage to get everything done quickly without breaking a sweat.
They can split themselves into two.
Simultaneous crying? No problem! Whether it's carrying them both in each arm or holding one twin close to his chest while rocking the other in a bouncer, dads of twins are experts at calming two babies at once. This superpower is especially helpful when mom needs that five minutes for a quick shower.
