As parents of twins, people always say that Joey and I are doubly blessed but sometimes we also feel doubly stressed because being a parent of twins means:
You are always on survival mode.
During the first few weeks home with the twins, it was feed, burp, nappy change in a three-hour repeating cycle. I would also try to sneak pumps in between to increase my milk supply. Everything was happening so quickly that at the end of each day Joey and I would just be happy we were able to keep them alive.
You are never off duty.
You never get to take turns watching the baby because there's two of them. Joey and I would get one twin each and we would be in charge of everything.
You have two alarm clocks.
You will never have to set your alarm clock again because the twins will always be there to wake you up very early in the morning.
You have to plan ahead.
You have two more people to bathe and dress then there's the business of buckling them in their car seats and getting all their stuff, which includes two strollers and a gigantic diaper bag in your car. Because of this, we've learned to plan to leave an hour earlier than our usual leave by time.
You level up on your math skills.
You can easily multiply almost any number by two. This comes in handy especially when you're out shopping for the twins. How much is that onesie? 379.50 per piece multiplied by two - 759! How much is that squeaky toy? 673.95 per piece, multiplied by two - 1347.90! And so on.
Twin parenting has really been one of the greatest challenges of our lives. And it's true that raising twins means double the responsibility and worry but what you get in return is also the double the love and smiles.
