Date Night In Under An Hour

date night after baby

During the twins' first few months, Joey and I suffered from date deprivation. Even so, we still both know that it's very important to have one-on-one time and reconnect. This is why we try to squeeze in a dinner date every week. We try soooo hard. Even if those dates look like this:

8:00 PM
Arrive at the restaurant and wait to be seated. We're both thinking "Finally, date night! I hope they seat us soon!"

8:01 PM
Decide to ask for the order sheets so our waiting time won't be wasted:
Black King, normal richness, heavy garlic, pork belly, green onion, 1/2 spicy, hard noodles
Red King, normal richness, heavy garlic, pork belly, green onion, 2 spicy, hard noodles

8:05 PM
Table's ready! "Irasshaimase!" The whole restaurant greets us loudly as we walk in. Request for tea and water. Listen to the server repeat out order and ask for the check right away.

8:07 PM
Should we should call home to ask if the babies are fine? No. We promised this date will be baby-free.  It's OK, if they need us they will call. Check phone: 5 full bars of signal. Good.  No reason for calls and texts not to go through.

8:10 PM
Yes! Finally, we're talking about non-baby stuff! It's like we're our old selves again. This is the best dinner ever.  Except, where's our tea and water? What's taking so long? Right, it's only been 5 minutes.

8:11 PM
Here's the tea and water. Continue talking about non-baby stuff... Oh but I forgot to share that cute thing Audrey did this morning when she woke up for milk. Or that funny thing Antonino did when we were about to leave the house for work. Oh well, it can wait. Focus. It's date night!

8:15 PM
Acknowledge that we both miss the twins and start watching videos of them together. Oh those cute little giggles. Hope they're still awake when we get home.

8:20 PM
Food's here!!! But where's the check? Follow up the check. Take a photo because "pics or it didn't happen!" Inhale food. Oh wait, it's super hot!!! We might have burned our tongues!

8:30 PM
Dessert? No thank you. We have to get home. We just need the check please!

8:35 PM
Finally got the check! Review items and pay.

8:40 PM
Sign the slip, leave a tip and go!! Date night success!

Maybe next time we'll go for sushi and be done in 30 minutes. Because let's face it: We're not having a 5-course dinner date any time soon.
