It's February so I figured it would be the
perfect time to write about how we celebrated Christmas. Haha. As I shared in my post a few of weeks ago, I was down with sore throat just after Christmas so I wasn't
able to write about our Christmas celebration right away.
My side of the family has been doing themed Christmas parties for quite some time now. Each family would take turns in coming up with the themes. In the past, we used to do simple themes like Red Christmas or White Christmas where we would all just dress up in one color but after that we moved to more elaborate themes like Barbie, Turkish and James Bond. For 2018, it was our turn to choose the theme. So with the twins' growing enthusiasm for Christmas last year, there was no doubt that our party would center around their favorite characters: Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
I'm not a DIY mom. Not even close. So I kept the decorations
simple with red, gold and polka dot balloons. We also used the twins' Mickey
Mouse stuffed toys, pillows and placemats (all birthday gifts from their Aunts)
as props.
We went with traditional Christmas food and I just printed
out Mickey Mouse cupcake toppers I found online to put a little bit of
Mickey into our spread. Again, not a DIY mom.
To make things a bit easier, I told the family that they
could come wearing Mickey character shirts or red/white/black/polka dot clothes.
But everyone went all out! Cousin Anton made his own Mickey ears. Another cousin Alfonso dressed up like Mickey Mouse in all
black and red shorts! "Nina Pat" came wearing Mickey gloves and a light
up Mickey hat which Antonino thought was the coolest thing ever. During dinner,
he would always ask her "Wuuuurs (where's) the light?"
The best costume went to my Tita Rose who came as Minnie
Mouse. Can you believe she bought her dress from the girls' section of the
department store? She actually fit in a dress made for 12-14 year olds. That's
a prize in itself if you ask me!
My cousins Patricia and Alfonso, and my Tito Bobby and Tita
Lina also made this cool Mickey Mouse frame that we used as a prop for
pictures. (They also made the nautical themed frame for the twins' first birthday).
Try as we might, we couldn't get Audrey and Antonino to look
and smile at the camera at the same time. We sang songs, made funny faces and
spoke in silly voices. Still nothing. But at least we got lots of laughs and
everybody obviously had a great time.
Then this happened. Good thing we didn't lay out all the
food yet.
Our celebration ended with the opening of gifts where the
twins received more Mickey/Minnie toys and clothes! Aside from dressing up as
Mickey and Minnie, our family members took the time to look for cool Mickey
merchandise for the twins and even checked with me to make sure they wouldn't
be getting duplicates. Thanks, guys!!! It was the merriest Mickey Christmas
indeed! I guess I should update my Stages of a Mickey Mouse Addiction post to
include a 10th stage: The kids' Mickey addiction has become downright
contagious and spread throughout the whole family.
