Thanks to the Internet, I was able to do plenty of baby gear
research without leaving my bed before the twins arrived. I had a lot of fun
checking out all the stuff on the market for babies with just a click of a
button. One thing that caught my attention was the Nursery Works Vetro Crib.
Doesn't it look so modern, stylish and very different from
the usual wooden cribs? According to the product description, its features are:
- 100% recyclable, non-toxic acrylic
- Three adjustable mattress levels
- Limited edition and specially numbered
- Hand-made with care
- Meets and exceeds US and Canadian safety standards
It's available for purchase through their website and
selected retail stores across the USA. The price? USD 4,500 plus tax which
brings the total to USD 4,917.25 So roughly PHP 250,000! That's more than
what couples usually spend for an uncomplicated delivery at a private hospital.
So I asked myself what would make me spend that amount of money on a crib?
Well, those 5 features on the website certainly won't be enough. But I'll
definitely consider making a purchase if it came with the following features:
- Convertible to a full size bed so baby can use it until he turns 18
- Baby mood meter that tells parents what baby is feeling especially when he starts to cry
- Automatic diaper changer with disposal system
- Unlimited diaper and wipes supply until baby is potty trained
- Built-in white noise machine to help baby sleep soundly
- Self changing and cleaning sheets - very useful for diaper leaks and blowouts
- Private line to pediatrician
- Morning, mid and night shift nannies as skilled as Mary Poppins - I think this feature alone can be enough to convince most parents especially if the nannies agree to stay for at least 3 years.
- Airbag-like safety device that deploys whenever baby is about to hit his head on the sides of the crib
- Food and drink dispenser for coffee chocolate, ice cream, whatever parents need to keep their sanity
How about you? What would make you spend PHP 250,000 on a crib?
